COMMON QUESTIONS
Pelvic floor physical therapists are trained to assess
and treat muscles, nerves and fascia of the pelvic floor. They are
specialized in the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction. These dysfunctions
can be responsible for problems with bowel and bladder health, pregnancy
and post-partum, and sexual function.
Expect to spend up to an hour and a half with your therapist to complete the entire evaluation on your first visit. Your pelvic PT will be diagnosing your muscle function by examining the strength, length and coordination of your pelvic floor muscles. We do this by performing an internal vaginal or rectal exam (with your consent), as well as exams to measure the strength and flexibility of all muscles that connect to the pelvis. This will help us gain a better understanding of the muscular function of your pelvic floor. After we gather this information, we will create a plan of care that is tailored to meet your needs. Each follow-up visit will be up to an hour long. There’s no set number of appointments. Your therapist will work with you to create a treatment plan that best meets your unique needs, availability and treatment goals. For some this might mean 1-3 visits, and for others it could mean 16 or more. If you have questions or concerns about your first visit or the internal examination, please send us an email.
No, you do not need a referral to see a Pelvic PT in Florida for up to 30 days. Florida is a “direct access” state, which means you can go directly to the PT without a referral. If you have a referral, you should bring it with you to your first appointment. If you don’t, please try to get one within 30 days of starting treatment.
Cultivate Pelvic Health LLC and Pelvic Vitality LLC are out-of-network providers, meaning we are a cash-based practice and do not go through insurance companies. This allows us to offer you the most value for your treatments without the restrictions placed on you by the insurance companies. There is a possibility you could potentially be reimbursed for your payment, and we can provide you with a superbill after your session to submit to your insurance provider.
We recommend you contact your insurance provider and ask if they have out-of-network benefits for physical therapy.
We are not enrolled with Medicare. Therefore, Medicare will not accept a superbill, nor will they reimburse you. However, if you choose to be treated by us, you will need to sign a waiver acknowledging these restrictions and we will be happy to treat you.
